RUAG has sold 71 of the Leopard-1 tanks stationed in Italy, including the associated spare parts, to Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH.
The contract ensures that neither the tanks nor the associated spare parts can be supplied to Ukraine, whether directly or indirectly. In addition, the parties have agreed that any potential resale to third-party states that have been sanctioned by Switzerland is prohibited.
"With the sale of the 71 Leopard-1 tanks, we are settling further bad debts. This highlights our explicit goal of in future focusing more intensively on our core mandate of supporting the Swiss Armed Forces. Based on the prior history, it was extremely important to us that compliance and governance requirements were adhered to meticulously," says Jürg Rötheli, Chairman of the Board of Directors of RUAG MRO Holding AG.
There are a total of 96 Leopard-1 tanks in storage in Italy. Discussions are still ongoing regarding the 25 vehicles that have not yet been sold. RUAG will provide information on relevant developments in due course.
