Innovation 2025: Strong momentum through collaboration

At RUAG, innovation is not just a buzzword, but a structured process characterized by measurable progress and broad participation. In 2025, RUAG continued to systematically evaluate innovative technologies, actively promote internal ideas, and maintain the Innovation Forum as a platform for exchange.

In 2025, approximately 50 startups and technology solutions were analyzed and evaluated in collaboration with internal stakeholders. This led to two concrete feasibility studies. The first study focused on efficiently training new employees in engine maintenance. The solution tested by an ETH spin-off aimed to guide employees through maintenance processes in real time using digital tools. Due to the satisfactory results, this tool is expected to be introduced later this year. The second feasibility study addressed the time-consuming and manual battery maintenance process. RUAG is the central point of contact for the integration and installation of radio systems in vehicles used by emergency and security organizations. As a POLYCOM specialist, RUAG ensures that radio and signaling systems are always fully operational. The study has shown that using an automated robot can improve efficiency in battery maintenance. Further trials are in the works.

Internal Innovation with Impact

At the same time, internal innovation capabilities were further strengthened. As part of the internal program to promote innovation, three projects were successfully completed. One of these is LLARA, a secure and privacy-compliant ChatGPT alternative that enables the controlled use of various AI models. In addition, numerous new ideas were submitted, which are currently in various stages of implementation. This underscores the fact that innovation arises where employees take responsibility and explore new avenues.

RUAG Innovation Forum

Another highlight was the Innovation Forum 2025, which was attended by 40 exhibitors, leading experts, and approximately 170 visitors. The main themes of this edition were “Space & Defense” and “AI for Defense”. The RUAG Student Innovation Awards were also presented during the Innovation Forum. The forum strengthened internal knowledge transfer and further solidified our position as a driver of innovation in Switzerland.

Last year’s activities clearly demonstrate that innovation is a collective effort. It arises from a structured approach, an openness to new ideas, and the courage to try new things.
