German delegation visits Thun

On Monday, March 23, 2026, Ambassador Markus Potzel and Defense Attaché Commander Per Fritz Weiler from the Federal Republic of Germany visited the RUAG facility in Thun. While there, the delegation discussed current issues and challenges in Life Cycle Management of military systems with RUAG representatives. The delegation also gained a wide range of insights into RUAG’s capabilities and infrastructure and its contribution to Switzerland’s security.

Markus Potzel has headed the German Embassy in Switzerland since 2025. Prior to that, he served as head of the German embassies in Iran and Afghanistan, among other posts, and worked for the United Nations as Deputy Special Representative in Afghanistan. He was accompanied during his visit to RUAG by the German Defense Attaché, Commander Per Fritz Weiler.

Focus on Life Cycle Management

The delegation was welcomed by members of the Executive Board, including Oliver Müller, CEO a.i., Hartmut Jäschke, Senior Vice President Sensors, Communication & Ground, and Markus Nievergelt, Senior Vice President Air. 

The visit focused on container integration, the production line for ballistic protection solutions, the tank hall, the transmission test bench, and electromagnetic measurement in Thun. There was also an in-depth discussion on the Life Cycle Management of military systems, with a focus on land systems. The delegation gained detailed insights into RUAG’s capabilities and their significance for Switzerland’s national security.
