As part of the Service Life Extension Program (NUV), all 30 Swiss F/A-18 aircraft were successfully recertified. This means all aircraft are now approved for operation for up to 6 000 flight hours. The fleet’s operational readiness is thus ensured through the early 2030s.
A central element of the NUV program was the “Structural Refurbishment Program Phase 2” (SRP2). RUAG carried out extensive inspection, repair, and maintenance work on the aircraft structure. Numerous structural components were inspected, replaced, or repaired to ensure the fleet’s long-term airworthiness and operational readiness.
In addition, work in the areas of avionics, material supply, and support services was carried out as part of the overall project. These technically challenging measures were implemented in close collaboration with armasuisse, the Swiss Air Force, and other industry partners.
“The successful implementation of the NUV program for the F/A-18 fleet underscores RUAG’s high level of technical expertise and performance in the field of military aviation systems. With their know-how and dedication, our employees have made an important contribution to ensuring the operational readiness of the Swiss Air Force,” says Enzo Giannini, Vice President Jets, RUAG.
Even after the completion of the NUV program, RUAG remains responsible for the maintenance and repair of the F/A-18 fleet. Through continuous technical support and the performance of periodic maintenance and repair work, RUAG plays a key role in ensuring that the aircraft can continue to be operated safely and reliably in the future.
In doing so, it makes an important contribution to national defense as well as to Switzerland’s security and sovereignty.
